Review - Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I'm really not sure how to go about this review. I guess to start off I'll mention what pretty much everyone else has--that is shares a lot of similarities to the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. I read Vampire Academy almost two years ago fell in love with it.

Reading Half-Blood really reminded me too much of Vampire Academy and that bothered me. I can see that for some who loved VA they would like Half-Blood because it is eerily similar. For me, it just bugged the hell out of me. Had I not read Vampire Academy, I probably would have loved Half-Blood. Jennifer L. Armentrout is an amazingly talented writer and there was nothing wrong with the writing. The plot just lacked originality.

I also found it very predicable. Very early on I made three predictions about what I thought the major plot twists would be and these predictions turned out to be spot on. This bothered me as well because I usually never see things coming in books. Usually, the least little thing surprises me.

Because of this I really can't give it more than 3 stars.

Despite the similarities I still recommend it ESPECIALLY if you have not read Vampire Academy or you don't mind books being similar. Jennifer does create an interesting fantasy world with mystery, adventure and romance. Her take on Greek Mythology is quite interesting.

I will be reading Pure as I've been assured it is much more original.
