Review - Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1)
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

I liked this book. I didn't love it or it didn't wow me but it did make me want to read the others.

Like a lot of other Urban Fantasy series', the first book often starts off slow. I try not to judge a series by the first book as the author has to set up an entirely new world (it is fantasy after all!)

The authors have created a unique world in Magic Bites. I really liked the concept of a magic-run world verses a technical-run world depending on the shift.

Also, it was refreshing to see vampires as evil, ugly creatures. Too many books portray vampires as beautiful, alluring human-like beings that it often gets stale.

I really liked Kate. She is a tough and loyal heroine who doesn't hold anything back. I loved her sass, especially with Curran. Who by the way defines alpha-male. *fans self*

I recommend this book to lovers of unique Urban Fantasy. It is definitely unlike others I have read and the ending has left me wanting to read the next.
