Author Interview - Ada Adams + Giveaway!!

Today I have Ada Adams here with me for an interview and GIVEAWAY!!!

About Ada

Actress. Model. Author. Magazine Editor. Chocoholic.

Ada's first book ReVamped is a YA Paranormal Romance

A simple mission turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old vampire Dawn has led a sheltered life within the confines of her father’s presidential headquarters. Upon being sent on a mission to revamp four goofy misfits into guardians of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek, Dawn believes that all her dreams have finally come true.

What starts off as a simple task, turns into something unexpected, changing Dawn’s life forever and leading the action-loving, thrill-seeking vampire teen on a path of mystery, danger and intrigue.

When a human girl is kidnapped by a group of rogue vamps, Dawn discovers that there is more going on in Angel Creek than meets the eye. And it all connects to Ethan, the cute newcomer who seems too perfect to be true, Sebastian, the mysterious vampire with a turbulent past, and even Dawn herself. Dawn must not only succeed in revamping the troubled recruits, but must also prevent the vampire race from being overtaken by a malevolent villain who has a strange and obsessive fascination with her. As threat escalates, romance blooms, and ghosts from her past begin to surface, Dawn is sure of only one thing: her life will never be the same.

Buy ReVamped:

1)Tell us a bit about REVAMPED that we can't get from the blurb.

My debut novel, “ReVamped”, is a YA Paranormal story about a vampire girl, Dawn, who is tasked with revamping a group of vampire misfits (take everything you know about vampires and reverse it and you get this gang) into protectors of a peaceful little town of Angel Creek. Sounds simple, right? However, when Dawn arrives in Angel Creek, she realizes that there is a lot more going on than meets the eye. She not only has to deal with training the vampire recruits, but is also plagued by some big mysteries from her past. Solving these, takes her on quite an emotionally and physically dangerous ride. Throw in a cute human and a hot vampire, and she’s definitely in for a lot more than she bargained for. “ReVamped” is fast-paced and full of action and adventure, with a hint of romance and humor.

2)Where did the idea for REVAMPED come from?

I’m a big fan of the vampire genre, especially in YA literature. There are already so many wonderful novels out there about strong, beautiful vampires, so I resolved to take a bit of a different route in regard to my story. I wanted to put a humorous spin on the genre, and tell a tale about vampires who aren’t so perfect. However, I also wanted to focus on the fact that these characters could stand as real people/teens, even after you distance them from the supernatural aspect of their personalities. I drew inspiration from our society’s current obsession with vampires (admit it, we all wish they were real!), and decided to explore what would happen if vampires—feeling idolized—chose to come out into the light. Right away, I found myself falling in love with Dawn and my misfits, and I can’t wait to continue their story.

I have a very long and detailed post on the birth of the book (which began as a TV show script) on the “ReVamped” Blog: www.revampedthebook.wordpress.com/2012/03/02/revamped-background/

3)Who's your favourite author?

I find this to be one of the toughest questions to answer, as I’m a very diverse reader. I like books in many different genres, from YA to adult works. I love the paranormal genre and mysteries, but I am also often drawn to stories about family life and cultures around the world. I truly appreciate various authors for different things. Some inspire me by their touching stories or their magnificent writing styles. Others, like J.K. Rowling make me fall in love with their creativity, magical worlds, and amazing characters.

4)If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring 5 things what would they be?

  1. My laptop and mobile internet, haha!
  2. My puppies. I’d like to bring my family as well, but I have more than five members, so I wouldn’t want to make them choose.
  3. A camera. I love to take pictures, but I just don’t have enough time to do it as often as I’d like. Being stranded may provide me with a great opportunity for photography.
  4. An e-reader. I can load tons of books on it, but it would still count as one item. :P
  5. A crossbow. Just in case. I wouldn’t hunt animals, though. I’d live on plant life.

5)What's your favourite childhood movie?

“Bolt” and “How to Train Your Dragon”. Yes, they just came out recently, but I’m a kid at heart! My little cousin and I bawled like babies while watching both!

Childhood, probably “Toy Story” or “Home Alone”. I also loved all Disney films—“Sleeping Beauty” being one of my favorites.

6)Coffee or tea?

Green tea bubble tea! Yumm!

I actually don’t drink coffee often (crazy thing for a writer, I know!), though I sometimes drink iced coffee when the mood strikes me.

7)If you could spend a day with anyone (dead or alive / real or fictional) who would it be and why?

I’d love to hang out with Ellen DeGeneres and play games all day. She always has the funniest games on her show!

8)What is your favourite pastime when you're not writing?

Eating chocolate! Aside from that, I love to spend time with my friends and family (preferably while travelling or out in nature). I love to hike, camp, spend time at the cottage (I have a cottage that’s even more secluded than Dawn’s!), and just be outdoors. I love photography, although only as a hobby. Professionally, I’m an actress as well, so I’m always working on my craft, going to auditions, or running off to set. I have been in both a werewolf and a zombie film, but not a vampire one yet! Of course, I also love to read.

9)Vampire or werewolf?

Vampires. I have to say that, of course, but werewolves are great as well. Although, I’m sure if you read “ReVamped”, you may think I had something against them! I really don’t—I promise! :)

10)Potato Chips or Chocolate?

Chocolate all the way!

11)Favourite current TV show?

Uh-oh. I must warn you, I’m a bit of a TV junkie! I’m only going to list the ones that are still on the air, because I have way too many shows that I’m nostalgic about (like “Buffy”). :)

“Supernatural”, “Modern Family”, “New Girl”, “Mad Men”, “Once Upon A Time”, “Game of Thrones”, “The Walking Dead”, “True Blood”, “Secret Circle”, “Gossip Girl”, “Psych”, “The Big Bang Theory”, “White Collar”, “Glee”, “The Lying Game”, “Bones”, “Up All Night”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “The Office”…And shows with such cringe-worthy characters and content I can’t help but like: “Shameless”, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, “Weeds”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “American Horror Story” (I watched it at 1:00 a.m., alone in the dark, so it was really creepy). I’m sure I forgot some great ones, so feel free to chime in!

One thing that I don’t do is watch much reality TV.

12)Share a favourite quote from REVAMPED.

Hmm…One of my favorite quotes is also my pick for one of the saddest:
Crimson Liner. Crimson Liner. - Dawn
